The Northampton & Lamport Railway welcomes visits from Schools who wish to give their children the opportunity of discovering at first hand how the railways shaped our history. They can experience the sights and sounds of a working railway and find out a little of what life was like for their parents and grandparents.

What was it like for children in the Second World War?

As part of Unit 9, Year 3 / 4 children can sample what life was like as an Evacuee during the Second World War. They travel to the station at Pitsford and Brampton, dressed for the 1940s period complete with label and gas mask box.

The railway charges 300 for a diesel-hauled 2 coach train (90 seats) with an additional charge of 50 if steam haulage is required. For further information you may contact us via e-mail or call the Booking Office on (01604) 820 327 (Telephone manned on operating days — recorded message at other times).

Classroom Resources

Look out for our class room resources page coming soon. This will include size details to make an authentic looking gas mask box and ideas for 1940s props such as old coins and reproduction newspapers from the period.
