With the warmer weather just around the corner and the signs of spring in the air, this means the birds are starting their nesting season and the lineside vegetation clearance work finishes for another year. The first of two applications of systemic weedkiller should ensure the Railway stays weed-free for the running season.

Many areas have been cleared of overgrown branches and brambles. The area north of Bridge 13, all the way to Merry Tom Crossing has been cleared, as well as the lineside around Bridge 11 and Pitsford Sidings. An area at Boughton Crossing Site of the former level crossing over the old A50 (now A5199). Adjacent to the line once stood the Boughton Cold Store, which has now been demolished. There is now a pub called the Windhover after a local name for the Kestrel. Boughton Crossing will be the southern terminus of the Railway's southern extension, and will remain so for some time as to cross the main road will require large amounts of money and much paperwork. A new arrival at the Railway is a steam crane, with a capacity of 5 tons. It is privately owned by one of the Railway's volunteers, who has removed the vertical boiler and taken it to Pitsford and Brampton Station to start work. Once restored it will come in useful for track laying and many other tasks.

The crane can be seen at Pitsford Sidings, which is visible from the Brampton Valley Way A 14-mile (22.5 km) linear park based on the former trackbed of the Northampton to Market Harborough line. The 13-mile (20.9 km) Northamptonshire section was purchased by Northamptonshire County Council with grant aid from the Countryside Commission in 1987. [ Interactive Line Map ].
